Native American Dance Troop Visits West Side Montessori Center

The Pollen Trail Dancers brought a dash of Native American culture to the students of West Side Montessori Center on Thursday, November 16, 2006, at the school’s Bancroft Campus. The Pollen Trail Dancers are a traditional children’s dance troupe from Joseph City, Arizona led by A. Brent Chase, whose Navajo name is Chasing Wind.

The group performed the Bow and Arrow Dance, the Hoop Dance and other traditional Navajo dances to an audience of upper elementary and middle school students. Students were treated to a brief history of the Navajo culture. Following the exhibition, dancers taught the students some of the dances.

The performance was enjoyed by students, staff and the handful of parents in attendance. In turn, Chasing Wind and his dancers also enjoyed the visit. About West Side's Bancroft Campus, Chasing Wind said, " This is such a warm, comfortable building. It doesn't feel like school. It feels like home."
